Herbal Medicine for Asthma Treatment
Herbal medicine that have shown at least some promise in treating asthma symptoms include:
 Butterbur
 Dried ivy
 Ginkgo extract
 Tylophora indica
 French maritime pine bark extract (pycnogenol)
 Indian frankincense (Boswellia serrata)
 Choline

Herbal Medicine for asthma like a tea, green or black are also a helpful . Both types of tea contain theophylline, a chemical which helps relax the smooth muscles of the bronchial tubes. Ginger is a natural anti-inflammatory, and can be helpful in decreasing the inflammatory processes which are a common occurrence with asthma (and allergies). Yerba Mate is a very helpful herbal medicine for asthma. It helps stimulate the adrenal glands to release corticosteroids, which reduce inflammation, as well as hyperactive immune responses to irritants. It also helps relax the airways, and dilate the bronchial passages.

A long used Herbal Medicine for asthma is the herb ephedra; which has been the subject of much bad publicity, as it has been misused as a diet drug and stimulant. It can elevate blood pressure and heart rate, and should not be used by anyone with high blood pressure, or heart problems. Ephedra was the herbal remedy of choice for asthma for centuries, because it was effective. It contains ephedrine and pseudoephedrine, which stimulate the sympathetic nervous system, relieving symptoms of colds, allergies and asthma. (Synthetic approximations of this herbal medicine active ingredient are widely used in over the counter cold remedies.)

Attention before taking any Herbal Medicine:
1. Drug interactions. Certain herbal remedies can interact with other medications.
2. Side effects. Side effects caused by herbal supplements can range from minor to severe, and depend on the herb and the dose you take. Be especially cautious of herbal asthma remedies that contain ephedra or ephedra-like substances, which may cause high blood pressure and have been linked to heart attack and stroke. Examples include ma-huang (banned in the United States) and bitter orange.
3. Quality and dose. Until recently, the quality of herbal and dietary supplements sold in the United States was often suspected. Things have improved with the introduction of guidelines from the Food and Drug Administration. The guidelines help ensure that manufacturers accurately indicate on the label what is in the bottle. While this is a significant step forward, it still pays to do your homework and research different brands.
